Connected Places is a powerful, co-designed, open-source Directory of Services (DoS) platform that helps to connect residents to local services, information, advice and communities. The product is being used in a variety of ways to serve different use cases:

• Directory of services - Empowering residents to discover local services and events. Enabling voluntary sector organisations to manage and promote their own service offers.
• Social prescribing - Giving link workers and residents service discoverability and a simple referral pathway, with a light-touch case management.
• Information and advice hub - Providing statutory information and content rich information and advice via landing pages and CMS functionality
• Single source of truth - Powerful GDS standards-compliant open API endpoints enabling interoperability and integrations with third-party platforms.

The Connected Places core product consists of three main components:

• API - The central interface for all applications wanting to interact with the data. This enables first and third party integrations, provides RESTful endpoints and conforms to GDS standards.

• Admin - A Single Page Application (SPA) for platform administrators and data owners to use to manage data within the platform.

• Frontend - A Single Page Application (SPA) for residents to use to discover, search and connect with services.

  • NB: A default frontend boilerplate is not provided as every deployment of the platform has the potential to be very different. Some features may not be implemented or needed, or simply the frontends may vastly look differently.
